Ever Wonder What It Took For The Disciples To Follow Jesus?

This week, we were honored to hear from Blane Young, Chi Alpha Campus Missionary-in-training.

Jesus asks us to follow Him.

In Mark 1:16-17, we see where Jesus asked some fishermen to follow Him & to become His first disciples.

But have you ever wondered what it took for the disciples to follow Jesus?

1. They had to leave what was comfortable.

Not only did they leave behind the only life they had ever known, they left behind their identity.

2. They had to give up that sense of security.

They traded the security of the lives they had always known for a dangerous journey with Jesus.

3. They had to relinquish control.

When they decided to follow Jesus, they realized that it was no longer about them, but Him.

What it took for the disciples to follow Jesus is the same thing it takes for us to follow Him too.

Blane said, “We share the same costs of the disciples because we share the same calling & commission”.

That statement really showed me how important the way I live my life is to Christ & His purpose.

Blane also shared some ways to connect with those around us so we can build community as we follow Jesus.

• We must be willing to be transparent.

• We must be willing to be vulnerable.

• We must give people permission to speak into our life.
