Things I Learned at NewSpring Church

This weekend, we took a SRT (Strategic Road Trip) to Elevation Church in Charlotte, NC and NewSpring Church in Anderson, SC with some of our executive staff and our Guest Services Director.

Today, I am going to write about what I learned during my time at NewSpring Church. Yesterday, I wrote about my time at Elevation Church and you can read that here in case you missed it.

NewSpring Church is an awe inspiring church that has grown from 0 to over 10,000 in just 10 years!

What I love about this church is that it is literally in the middle of nowhere.

Seriously, you just have to laugh, as your eye goes from gently rolling hills and the scene of picturesque cow pastures to this giant 103,000 square foot, beautiful state of the art monument of excellence in ministry.

I mentioned yesterday, that the goal of this SRT was to soak up the Guest Services departments of both churches.

Let me tell you, we had the red carpet rolled out for our team during our visit.

Karla, Jennifer and Sherry were the most helpful and informative team of ladies we have ever dealt with.

Stewart (our COO) and I met with Jason (NewSpring’s COO) and Blane (our Communications Pastor) met with Adam (who leads a portion of their production team) and Bill (our Guest Services Director) spent time with Sherry (who oversees volunteers at all campuses).

Whew. That is a lot of meetings. Seriously, the conversations and information were priceless!

Here are some highlights of what I learned:

  • You can never go wrong when you spend money on children’s facilities (NewSpring has the best children’s environment I have ever seen).
  • Do whatever it takes to have fun in church.  (Pastor Perry is leading a series called I Love The 80’s and before service, they had Bon Jovi and Michael Jackson music videos playing on the screens. Oh, it doesn’t stop there! They also had a karaoke green screen set up in the atrium that piped video into the auditorium so that the brave few could sing along with our 80’s musical stars as we all watched – and laughed.)

It was so funny, the band opened up with John Mayer’s spin on Beat It, then went right into worship.

People are going to say what they want to say about both of these ministries, but until you are responsible for leading as many people as they do to Christ, I say you just need to shut up and go make Hell smaller in the area that you are called to serve.

We can learn something from anyone, so I encourage you today to go out and look for people to learn from.

It’s OK if you don’t agree with everything they say, by the way.

Apply what fits and file the rest.
