Jesus vs. Jack Bauer

This is the first season I have ever watched 24, yes I know I am a late bloomer, but DANG, this show has a way of keeping you cliff hung from week to week, just when you think there is no way they can twist the plot more, they freak you out and do it.

Why do people in America like to watch one man take on the entire world of terror and evil? Because we love seeing the underdog win.

That is certainly who Jesus was as a man, He was a religious teacher who was not from the tribe of Levi therefore not qualified to be a teacher under Judean law.

His team was made up of roughneck fisherman, thieving tax collectors, and ordinary men.
His tactics were unorthodox, a friend of sinners, washing the feet of his subordinates, and ignoring the religious elite.

His mission seemed impossible, to live a sinless life, died an executioners death, and return to life again.

There are a ton of differences between the two, one of the greatest implication to your life would be that as much as you want you can never join Bauer’s team, as much as you want to take out some terrorist on the show it will never happen, but you can join Team Jesus, we fight evil, do the impossible, and we get to live 24/7 to make it count.

What is your favorite part of being on Team Jesus?

  • The first thing I love about being on Team Jesus is all the members. I have a variety of team members..every race, every gender, every body. I mean everyone has an equal opportunity to play on this team. It doesn’t matter if you are fat, short and bald or tall, athletic and hairy you get the same place on the team, your worth is exactly the same. THAT is my number one thing I love about being on team Jesus!~

    • I agree Mary, the power of Team Jesus, is in part attributed to the the power of diverse people with a variety of gifts and passions

  • Sometimes, I think we can lose sight of how exciting our faith can be.

I am not sure I have ever seen someone make the comparison between Jesus and Jack!

My favorite thing about being on Team Jesus is that when others join the team, their entire lives change. Like, when I go to work, there is no question of importance or purpose of the task I am doing because it ultimately has something to do with leading people to become fully devoted followers of Christ.

    • yes I believe the greatest life change stories take place only as people plug into the life change process.

  • My favorite part of being on Team Jesus is never being alone. Even when I am lonely I know Jesus is there to be my friend.

    • SO true Shana, Leadership can be lonely there is no other way to put that, however just because it can be lonely doesn’t mean you have to feel alone, he is always , much like the drones flying overhead in 24 getting our back and ls always with us.

  • What a comparison!

This show was addicting for me. Each week watching a single man take initiative to handle such enormous problems.

Jesus took on everyone’s problem…sin. He made available a life for us that we could not have imagined without his sacrifice.

That same excitement should be within us to be part of Team Jesus. A team where everyone is significant. Everyone’s talents, gifts, and personalities just add to the team. What a difference we can make!

  • One of my favorite things is that Jesus is a role model that is actually worth modeling your life after and making your decisions based on.

There are and always have been many influences out there in the world, and many will led you down the wrong path. But following Jesus keeps you on the good and true path, and will give you lasting and rewarding fulfillment.

    • That’s one of my favorite things about Jesus as well! I know that anytime you place your trust fully in man, he or she will fail you, however only understanding that Jesus does not only have the Way but IS the Way.

  • my favorite part of Team Jesus is knowing I can make a difference. Blane I agree entirly what you say but do we actually get to see that change in peoples or do want them to change so badly.

  • I love this comparison because all my life I have loved action movies and shows. It makes me see that loving Jesus and being on His team takes action. Sometimes it might be hard and we may not want to go on but just like with Jack, life does depend on it. So as Christians or Christ Followers we can consider ourselves Action Heroes. So get out and help save someone!

  • wow great point I know of so many “Christ Followers” and I use that turn lightly, are not action heros, we should all be called to action heros!

  • all through school, i was one of the last people to be picked when they would “choose” teams. It’s a very lonely experience. I like team Jesus because it doesn’t matter how out of shape I am or how poorly I play, if I was the only person on earth, Jesus would still choose me with open arms and a smile NOT because he had to but because he WANTS to.

  • Kim, we often know Jesus loves us, and that’s great, but your words reminded me that Jesus likes us. He doesn’t pick us because He is obligated, He picks us because, as you put it, He WANTS to!
How do you think, fully understanding that changes the way we live love and serve?

  • Being a part of Team Jesus is incredible for me because I feel chosen by God to make a difference, and in a world that doesn’t always appreciate the actions that make up our lives, I can live an intentional, purpose-filled life for Christ!

His sacrifice on the cross is a humbling reminder that I get to serve the God who loved me that much!

  • Team Jesus! Just the thought of being able to say that and the words rolling off of my tongue is sooo amazing! The fact that anyone could love me so unconditionally, with all of my faults and bad choices is the best feeling. Its even more amazing that the Ruler of all Heaven and Earth knows who I am. I barely know who I am some days! Haha

    • So true He does know us better than we k ow ourselves so what does that tell you about what our response should be to listening and trusting the path He wants us to walk in?

  • My favorite thing about being a part of Team Jesus is the fact that I actually have a role to play, alongside those who are on the team with me. And that’s just what it is- a team. We all build each other up, back each other up, and we are all in it for the same goal- to make Christ famous!

I think thats what does it for me, knowing that I am on that team, and though we may all have different “positions” we all unite to come together for the end result. And we all get to do this because of the love that He has shown us!!!!!

    • Yeah, that really encourages me. Knowing that I am contributing but also knowing that I can do it myself-it is a strange combination that make the win that much sweeter!

    • Good word, as much as I love the cowboys the only position they give me to play is that I can spend 200 bucks and buy a ticket to sit in the stands.
The fact that I little ole me gets to suit up is a big deal!

    • Dude good stuff, we do all have a role, a role that will be empty if we do not do what God is expects us to do!

  • Jesus gave me a second chance when I was 17 years old in a car wreck. What I love about team Jesus is that he never gives up on us or leaves our side. Even when we need him the most he gives us the strength to walk even when we phycially can not. He gives us strength, courage and guidence until we are back on are feet.

    • Truely amazing story Sandra I look forward to featuring your story on a celebration Sunday to share with everyor what God has done!
As someone who almost lost thier life, what prospective do you have that many of us don’t as it relates to Team Jesus?
How has that changed your role on the team?

  • Being on Team Jesus is amazing!!! I never actually thought of it as being on a team, but we are! When we say our sinner’s prayer, Jesus automatically welcomes us into His team! Wow!!!

For me, the best part is knowing that I ALWAYS have someone with me and I am NEVER alone! For most of my life I always felt like I was walking this life alone, but praise God He showed me that He has always been with me and I have never been alone. I always have Him right there with me to guide me, support me and love me. Now, I can pass that light onto others so they know that they are not alone! God is truly awesome! I love being on Team Jesus!

  • I love being on Team Jesus cause everybody loves the Leader and all of the Team Members. I just want to love others like Jesus loves his children.

  • So true Jennifer

  • Amazing discussion everyone let’s do it again tomorrow, the post hits at 7:30am

  • im 14 and i have been watching 24 for 3 years only because it was on after my bed time but my parents have watched all most every single 24 every made. and i agree Jack is a lot like Jesus. only jack is not omnipresent and if he was it would only take about 2 hrs. in stead of 24. but getting back on track. i think that the best part of being on Team Jesus is knowing that no matter how big the meanest kid in school is or my biggest problem, i all ways feel safe that my God is bigger than any thing in my life and he has a plan for every thing. It may not be how i would like it to plan out but only he knows the big picture for our life. and He holds our future and that makes me feel safe.

  • lol I love the 2 hour thing, that;s so funny, If you want to know what Jesus looks like in JAck mode check out the book of revelation. He will be taking out some serious spiritual terrorist from the white horse.
It looks to me that you have a great handle on why you are on Team Jesus.
I love your reasons keep growing in Him
